ABOUT THE MCCFA

Hospitality-focused, progressive and collaborative, welcoming and interactive…the MCCFA (the Authority) was formed in 2019 and assumed ownership of the Dayton Convention Center on April 1, 2021 with a mission to restore/revitalize the heartbeat of our hospitality community. The Authority is responsible for funding certain capital improvements and services for the Dayton Convention Center that will allow the Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) to attract more national and regional events, driving revenue and economic growth back into Montgomery County and the City of Dayton.

The Authority uses a collaborative sales approach with hotel partners, the CVB and community stakeholders to attract business segments such as Leisure, Group Tours, Associations, Corporate, Government SMERF (Society, Military, Educational, Religious and Fraternal) and Sporting events. The goal: increase demand for lodging, benefiting urban and suburban hotels and, consequently, increasing visitor spending in our local hotels, restaurants, and retail outlets throughout the County.

The MCCFA is a local government agency and operates independently, led by an 11-member Board of Directors.

Innovation Taking Flight

Construction is underway to renovate the Dayton Convention Center. The MCCFA is overseeing $40 million in renovations that will transform the Dayton Convention Center. Trend-setting designs and finishes, including a feature third-floor terrace and venue space, will create a vibrant guest experience for years to come.

On a recent hardhat tour, members of the MCCFA Board of Directors saw the first transformations taking place in the restrooms. When completed, a portion of the restrooms on the first and third floors will feature modern design elements, including trough sinks, artful tile, and resource-efficient water management fixtures. Upgrading the Convention Center’s core restrooms on the first, second and third floors will begin in early July. The center’s kitchen offices, addition of employee restrooms, and security offices are being modernized, in addition to upgrading kitchen equipment.

While these design elements will create an exceptional guest experience, significant infrastructure improvements are underway to the building’s mechanics for comfort and safety. Four new air handling units have been ordered for the Exhibit Hall, new chillers are scheduled for 2024, and escalator re-modernization begins in August. Improvements to emergency power, lighting and HVAC controls are scheduled. This work is in addition to the recent recoating of the building’s exterior with timeless colors, removal of the front steel structure last August, elevator restorations, and acquisition of mobile, scalable telescopic stadium seating in the Exhibit Hall.

An iconic third-story terrace will transform the exterior look of the Convention Center into an art-scaped plaza. In June, foundation work begins to prepare for the steel installation scheduled in August. The complete project includes a sleek VIP suite overlooking the Exhibit Hall, electrical/data pockets in the Exhibit Hall floor, new finishes to the 672-seat theater, new skywalk finishes, an 18,000-20,000 square foot ballroom with light changing ceiling technology, elegantly refurbished Gem City Ballroom, new ceilings, lighting, upgraded meeting room finishes, and digital signage at each meeting room.

Congratulations AC Marriott Team

The AC Hotel, located at 124 Madison Street in downtown Dayton, opened in March 2023. This beautifully designed hotel from Crawford Hoying Development and Woodward Development, adds 134 rooms with a rooftop restaurant slated to open soon. The MCCFA welcomes its newest hotel partner and congratulates the AC Team!

Sharing Our Progress!

Our Executive Director/CEO Pam Plageman and Dayton Convention Center General Manager Kelli Donahoe addressed a large audience at the I-70/75 Development Association meeting on May 19. Pam and Kelli shared the construction progress and design finishes. The DCC remains open during the construction on a stop-and-go schedule to meet the region’s convention and meeting needs and is accepting future bookings. Construction is expected to be completed in Q1-2025.

Thank You, Lodging Partners!

The Dayton Convention Center is supported in part by a 3% lodging tax on all qualified guest stays in Montgomery County. The MCCFA, owner and manager of the Dayton Convention Center, thanks the region’s hotels and motels for its partnership by collecting and submitting the lodging taxes.

Hotel News

The MCCFA celebrates the Dayton Arcade’s successful closing on funding for a new hotel. The Arcade will welcome the Hilton Garden Inn in 2025. The 94-room hotel project is included in the Dayton Arcade’s second phase, which will overhaul the Third Street Arcade and the Gibbons Annex Buildings. The Arcade’s restoration is a gem and cornerstone to downtown’s revitalization.
